There are many challenges related to creating and managing asset information from cradle to grave. One that is often overlooked is how business functions are or are not organized for successful information handovers. Southern Company has recently implemented strategies to overcome organizational challenges to information creation and maintenance. In this presentation Tedd Weitzman, Project Manager for Engineering and Construction Services’ (E&CS) Performance Improvement Team will discuss the challenges he’s encountered in a 16-year career managing engineering and related information for Southern Company’s fossil/hydro generating fleet. E&CS executes approximately 1000 projects annually. These projects include both operational and capital expenditures ranging in magnitude from small retrofit work to greenfield mega-projects. The complexity of the information E&CS is required to manage is magnified by the fact that the group is an EPC integrated with the owner. This gives the organization whole asset lifecycle information management responsibilities.
